“Cascina Morassino is one of the hidden gems in Barbaresco.” - Antonio Galloni - Vinous
Roberto Bianco has been at the helm of his family winery for 37 years and is most certainly making the best wines he has ever made from a winery so pristine you can eat off the floors. Roberto and I share a passion for motorcycles although he used to race them off-road and I just crashed them on the street but we had lots to talk about when we met up for the first time and for sure we will ride together on our next visit for sure. But besides having a love for motorcycles we also have a love of old-school great Barbaresco.
The winery is at the foot of the famous Ovello Vineyard, one of the first vineyards to ever make Barbaresco and the northernmost vineyard in the town of Barbaresco. Montefico is right next to it. Roberto's plot is right in the middle of the hill on calcareous soils rich in clay. So rich in clay that these is definitely a Cru that needs plenty of time in the bottle to smooth out the tannins and let the fruit shine through.
